Matibag inimbita ng FBI

Inimbita ng Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) si National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag kaya nais nitong tumestigo ng mas maaga sa impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Sa ipinadalang sulat ni Matibag kay House lead prosecutor at Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro, na may petsang Hulyo 10, sinabi nito na inimbitahan siya ng FBI sa isang summit para sa scams center compounds at transnational organized crime.
“This request is occasioned by an official commitment abroad. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, in coordination with the Royal Thai Police, has invited the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to the inaugural Regional Summit on Scam Center Compound and Transnational Organized Crime, to be held in Bangkok Thailand on 21-22 July, 2026,” sabi sa sulat.
“As Director of the Bureau, I will personally attend to represent the NBI at this summit of director- and commissioner general-level law enforcement leaders across the Asia Pacific, which will require my travel and attendance on those dates,” dagdag pa nito.
Ang Senate impeachment court ay nagsasagawa ng paglilitis mula Lunes hanggang Miyerkoles simula 2:00 ng hapon.
“In view thereof, I respectfully request that I be scheduled to take the witness stand prior to my departure so that my participation in the Summit will neither disrupt the proceedings nor delay the presentation of my testimony. I remain fully prepared to cooperate and to make myself available at any earlier date the Panel may determine,” sabi pa sa sulat.
Inaasahang tetestigo si Matibag sa impeachment trial kaugnay ng umano’y pagbabanta ni Vice President Sara Duterte kina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, at dating Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
Sa isang online press conference noong Nobyembre 2024, sinabi ni Duterte na “Huwag kang mag-alala, Ma’am, sa security ko, kasi may kinausap na ako na tao. Sabi ko sa kanya, kapag pinatay ako, patayin mo si BBM, si Liza Araneta, at si Martin Romualdez. No joke, no joke. Nagbilin na ako, Ma’am. ’Pag mamatay ako, sabi ko, huwag ka tumigil hanggang hindi mo mapatay sila. And then he said, ‘Yes’.”
Ang umano’y pagbabanta ang ikaapat na article sa impeachment case na inihain laban kay Duterte.
