SINABI ni Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. na walang destabilization efforts sa loob ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) kasunod ng shooting incident sa Senado.
Sa isang ambush interview, sinabi ni Teodoro na ang active-duty military personnel ay nananatiling propesyonal sa kabila ng ingay politika.
“In the active duty ranks of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, where my jurisdiction lies, there is none…Those in the ranks are professionals and this will not affect them,” ang sinabi ni Teodoro.
“There’s a big distinction between a political and law enforcement issue and a military issue and a national defense issue. Very clear sa Armed Forces that they have learned the lessons of improper meddling by the armed forces in politics,” aniya pa rin.
Winika ng Kalihim na ang panawagan para sa AFP na i-withdraw ang suporta mula sa anumang partido ay walang legal o Constitutional basis.
“Yung mga panawagan sa Armed Forces na mag-aklas or whatnot from any party, that has no basis in law and the use of the Constitution na the Armed Forces is the protector. It is a gross and mistaken misinterpretation of the Constitution,” ang winika ni Teodoro.
“There is no operative procedure for that. It is just a statement that the Armed Forces must remain apolitical,” anito pa rin.
Sa ulat, nagkaroon ng putukan sa loob ng Senado nitong Miyerkules ng gabi, May 13, habang nagpapatuloy ang tensyon kaugnay ng posibleng pag-aresto kay Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa dahil sa warrant mula sa International Criminal Court.
Ilang media organizations ang nag-ulat ng sunod-sunod na putok ng baril sa loob ng Senate complex dahilan upang magtakbuhan palabas ang mga mamamahayag para sa kaligtasan.
Wala pang kumpirmasyon kung sino ang nagpaputok o kung sino ang target ng insidente.
