Humiling ng karagdagang P12 bilyon na budget ang Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) matapos nitong magamit ang kalahati ng emergency repatriation funds nito bilang tugon sa tensyon sa Middle East.
Ito ang kinumpirma nina OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne “PY” Caunan, at OWWA Deputy Administrator for Administration and Fund Management Jasmine Gapatan sa pulong balitaan nitong Lunes, Abril 20.
“We have utilized 50 percent of the allocated repatriation fund… That is why we are asking for an additional budget from the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) for two things: emergency repatriation fund and the equally important reintegration,” ani Caunan.
“We could do so much more if we had more. That is why we requested from the DBM and our Congress and Senate a supplementary budget of P12B, composed of nine billion pesos as an additional emergency repatriation fund… the three billion pesos focused on the reintegration program,” paliwanag naman ni Gapatan.
Ang initial emergency repatriation funding ng OWWA ay nagkakahalaga ng P1.286 bilyon, at ngayon ay nagagastos na ang P700 milyon para rito.
Ginagamit ang repatriation fund sa pagproseso ng mga dokumento ng mga OFW at dependents nito sa kanilang pag-alis sa mga host country, maging ang pag-book ng kanilang flight pauwi ng Pilipinas kung ito man ay chartered o commercial.
Sa kabilang banda, kabilang naman sa reintegration efforts ng OWWA ang medical, financial, at transportation assistance, maging ang upskilling, reskilling, at re-employment support.
Matatandaan na nagsimula ang OWWA kasama ang Department of Migrant Workers, ng repatriation efforts nito noong unang linggo ng Marso kasunod ng pag-atake ng Estados Unidos at Israel sa Iran na nagdulot naman ng pagganti nito sa mga bansa sa Gulf region na mayroong base militar ng Amerika.
